Verandah decking

The verandahs were a major lifestyle and financial commitment. They significantly increased the living area of the house and allowed all bedrooms to have french door access to the outside, so we felt they were an important feature of the overall design. Verandahs are synonymous with the Queenslander house so we wanted to make sure we made them as sympathetic to the era of a 1930's house as possible. As such, we installed verandah brackets, dowel balustrading, and horizontal T&G lining to mirror the direction of the decking boards. The steel posts would be clad in timber (the height of the house meant we couldn't use timber posts as they weren't long enough)

Details are below:

  • 3 stump cricket dowel balustrading (prefabricated by Woodworkers and installed by the builders)
  • 340 x 355mm verandah brackets (from Woodworkers & Colonial Warehouse)
  • Qld Spotted Gum decking
  • Ceiling and trimmings paint colour: Dulux Vivid White
  • Wall paint colour: Dulux Tranquil Retreat

As the house isn't quite finished, i'll upload more photos once complete.

Finally finished!
