Lifting a Queenslander

House lifting is actually quite a common occurrence in Queensland so we knew the basic mechanics of how it was done as my parents had done it once before to a Queenslander in Brisbane. This job was subcontracted by the builders to specialist house lifters who drove down from Yatala to do the job. As you can see from the photos, the process doesn't look all that sophisticated. Basically the house is detached from its stumps, it is then incrementally jacked up and large timber pieces are used to created supports. Not unlike jenga - but more terrifying when storms are forecast. The process itself is actually quite fast considering the scale of the operation. Steel stumps were then put in place and welded back onto the new steel supports/joists under the house.

Waiting for the concrete slab to set after the house was lifted took longer...
